After a lifetime of listening to roots, rock, and reggae, Mako made a
fateful choice to dive back into the vinyl world in 1996. It seemed like all
the alt-rock shows were filled with head-bobbing afficianados - the
excitement and energy had left. Where was the massive? Fortunately, that
potent mixture of breakbeats and melodies put forward by Goldie and Bukem
showed him the way. Armed with beltdrives and a crap mixer, the bedroom DJ
was born. As the DnB sound developed, Mako was there loving it playing the
occasional house party and club. In 1999, with a chance purchase of Dem 2's
"Destiny" a new funky sound was discovered: 2Step Garage. In 2001, things
